Sustainable, domestic shrimp aquaculture

Each tank at Triple J Farms holds about 2500 gallons of well water, which is constantly being recycled. After an initial fill about seven years ago, the team at Triple J only tops off water that has evaporated and there are zero outputs, meaning there isn't any runoff or waste water to dispose of.

This closed system is highly sustainable and the small building, which holds 14 pools, can produce 5,000 pounds of shrimp annually, which is distributed locally to chefs and home cooks. As we look for sustainable ways to feed our hunger for seafood, systems like the one at Triple J are offering solutions that satisfy consumer demand for high quality shrimp while using very few resources and eliminating impacts on our oceans.
