Creating regional Ozark wines at Dale Hollow Winery

You don't go to Verona and ask for Chianti ... Katy Dale spent months studying wine in Italy and it was there that she came to understand the value of regionality in wines. A winemaker's region impacts what they can grow well -- where Dale Hollow Winery is located, in Missouri, vitis vinifera -- European grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay -- does not grow well. It's too humid, to hot, too erratic of a climate. So wine makers like the Dales grow grapes like Norton, Chambourcin and Vignoles. Drinking regional wines is lighter on the planet and it's fun to discover new grapes and wine styles!
