A Japanese ethos weaves its way through SingleThread Farms

In Sonoma County at SingleThread Farms, Evan Hufford, the property’s wine director, features Den Sake as part of thread of Japanese flavor and ethos woven into the restaurant experience.

At SingleThread, sake is poured from a handmade vessel that is full of fresh-cut flowers, an unmatched way to savor the aroma and flavor of sake.

SingleThread is not one single thing — it is a farm, a restaurant and an inn (we want to try the traditional Japanese breakfast!), all contributing to creating experiences for guests that capture the essence of Sonoma County. The work of artisans — some Japanese, some American, all brilliant — permeates the hushed SingleThread environs.

Of particular interest to those who will enjoy sake with one of their 11 courses at SingleThread is the work Mitsuko Siegrist of Tsuchikara Pottery, who crafted a basket full of unique sake cups. In Japanese households, guests are asked to choose which cup they would like to use, the idea being that the cup chooses you. At SingleThread, they follow that tradition, presenting a basket of handmade ceramic sake cups, each one unique.

Once you’ve chosen your cup, the sake is poured from a handmade vessel that is full of fresh-cut flowers and herbs, an unmatched way to savor the aroma and flavor of sake.
