AUSTIN, Texas // Jan. 25, 2020

On Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, over 330 individuals ventured to The Hall at Jester King Brewery for Meet the Makers: Austin.

The day began with an exclusive VIP reception for our national sponsor, Edward Jones, that was catered by Sour Duck Market and Easy Tiger with beverages from Jester King and Treaty Oak. Then tasteMAKERS host and producer Cat Neville took to the stage and welcomed everyone to the first event of our second season. She shared clips from the show and folks featured in the Barton Springs Mill episode joined her on stage for live interviews and cooking demonstrations, including James Brown of Barton Springs Mill, Mark Buley from Sour Duck Market, David Norman of Easy Tiger and Jamie Biel of Treaty Oak Distilling.

The live show kicked-off with Norman, head dough-puncher at Easy Tiger, showing everyone a unique method for kneading bread that can also be found in his book, Bread on the Table. Following Norman, Brown took the stage, and discussed with Cat the history behind his love for milling, why he decided to open a grain hub and why he mills the specific heritage grains he offers bakers, chefs, millers and brewers across the Austin region. Next up was Buley, who fried up a “corn-nut-like” snack made out of whole Sonoran wheat berries. Biel closed the show, teaching the audience how to make the perfect Old Fashioned with Good Food Award-winning Ghost Hill Bourbon, raising a glass to Barton Springs Mill and the Makers Movement.

After the live show, guests had the opportunity to sample and shop from 16 different local makers (scroll below slideshow). Offerings varied from beer, kombucha and coffee to ice cream, olive oil, bread and spreads. Vendors served their samples using biodegradable cups, plates and utensils provided by our generous in-kind sponsor, Natural Tableware. A live guitarist set the mood, and Shutterbooth photos made for a fun take-home to remember the day.

Thank you to our Vendors:
