Growing up at Stone Hill Winery

What's it like to grow up at a winery, helping your parents scrub out barrels and welcoming wine-curious customers at all hours of the evening? Listen is as Jon Held, the second generation of Helds to oversee Stone Hill Winery in Hermann, Missouri, takes us inside life at the winery as it was becoming established in the 1970s and '80s.

“My mom was taking care of customers, and helping bottle, and helping clean, and the winery, and raising four kids. But we lived second floor of the winery,” said Held. “The main building was built in 1868. And so we lived right above it. And I remember people knocking on the door at 7:00 at night, she's making dinner. They're like, ‘Are you still open?’ ‘I will be just give me a moment.’ She'd run downstairs, and pour them a taste of wine, and sell them a couple bottles, and come back up and finish dinner.”
