Agricole rum adds a funky note to classic cocktails at Pint & Jigger

Dave Newman’s speakeasy, Harry’s Hardware Emporium, is accessed through a secret door off of a hallway at Pint & Jigger, his modern public house serving an ever-changing rotation of 40 or more bottled craft beers plus 20 on tap. At Harry’s, however, the focus is on classic cocktails and Kō Hana’s agricole rum allows Dave to play with the rum’s funky flavor in unique preparations.

When we arrived for our shoot, we were surprised to see a half-dozen cop cars and huge trucks full of television equipment in the parking lot outside of Pint & Jigger.

Unsure of what was going on, I walked up to the front door and my phone began to ring — it was Dave and he came out from around a corner to greet us and offer an explanation. Turns out Hawaii Five-O was shooting a scene there that day and was a bit behind in wrapping for lunch.

Hawaii Five-O was wrapping up a shoot as we were arriving for ours!

We found a seat on one of Harry’s comfy sofas and watched as the crew finished up their shoot and then carefully dismantled the shelves they had built to mimic a safe inside the door that leads to the speakeasy from its sister restaurant, Pint & Jigger. That door is pretty famous in Honolulu … the Hawaii Five-O crew broke down the for-TV-only shelves and piles (many piles) of fake money, all labeled by denomination.

It was fun to get an inside peek at the filming of this prime-time CBS series. They definitely had a bigger crew than we did, with a lot more cameras and lights galore :)
